In contrast to its predecessor, the hairstyles in The Veilguard are very elaborately designed. This has even amazed fans who usually don’t have a good word to say about the role-playing game.
Fans had to wait almost ten years for a successor to Dragon Age: Inquisition. But when The Veilguard was introduced with the first trailers and gameplay, many fans were skeptical. A combat system with more of a focus on action and without directly controllable companions? Stylized, colorful graphics? And what do the Qunari actually look like?
So for the community, there were already plenty of opportunities to get them in their hair. But there are also nicer things to talk about: As some fans have noticed, Bioware has given particularly long-haired characters a freshly coiffed and technically impressive look.
You’ve got the hair of your dreams
While in Dragon Age: Inquisition, hairstyles often still looked like static wigs, in The Veilguard the characters’ hair falls from their shoulders like a waterfall. The hair even reacts to head movements and blows back and forth. This can be seen well in this video:

The fashionable upgrade has been well received by many players so far. Some are even really excited:
Finally beautiful hair! It will take me a month to create my mage
I actually wanted to give my character short hair, but I have to use what they’ve served us.
This hair looks way too good? The physics? This can’t be Bioware!
If there’s one thing [the developers] took to heart from Inquisition, it’s definitely the hair. I was expecting really stiff, modeled hair and several types of bald spots.
However, there is also criticism again and again, and some fans don’t want to leave a single good hair on the new physics:
It looks good, yes, but at the same time it doesn’t. It looks more like water than hair. It’s still good that it exists.
The thing is, hair has no weight. They just get flung around with a simple turn of the head.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released on October 31, 2024. If you’re looking forward to the fourth installment of the role-playing series but have forgotten almost everything about the characters and story of the predecessors, we’ll prepare you:
