Following the huge success of the first installment, Warner Bros. has confirmed that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in the works

Hogwarts Legacywas an unbelievable success in 2023. The role-playing game from the Harry Potter universe recorded the best sales figures and also did pretty well in the ratings.

So it’s actually a no-brainer that publisher Warner Bros. wants to back this horse again. Theconfirmation of a planned sequelhas now also come from the very top.

Warner Bros. talks about plans for the sequel

Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels spoke toThe Hollywood Reporterabout the company’s plans to further tap into the gaming market. After the huge success of Hogwarts Legacy, a sequel is being considered:

It’s a hit-driven business, just like the movie business […] Of course, a sequel to Hogwarts Legacyis one of the biggest prioritiesin a few years.

After the flop that wasSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguethe gaming division at Warner Bros. struggled greatly, according to Wiedenfels. Just recently, Rocksteady, the development studio behind the supervillain game, experienced a wave of layoffs, although Warner Bros. has not commented on them.

J.B. Perrette, head of gaming at Warner Bros., recently caused some hairs to stand on end among Potterheads. He had been flirting with the Free2Play and Live Service market, as this is where he expects the most reliable income for the company. But don’t panic for now: It has not been confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will follow in this vein.

Wiedenfels was still very tight-lipped about a possible release window. “In a few years” can mean many things and anyone who doesn’t want to survive this stretchy period without Harry Potter has several options.
