Treyarch is bringing back the old Prestige system for Black Ops 6, where you fight for the right to brag about your badges.

It was the good old days in Call of Duty. The last time players faced each other in Black Ops 4 and looked at the Prestige badge, which only those with the Master rank could call their own, they knew that someone had dedicated themselves to a considerable grind.

This grind was celebrated by many fans of the series for offering them long-term motivation. With Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, however, the prestige system was changed in 2020, causing it to be lost for many fans. But Black Ops 6 now wants to bring back the tried and tested mechanics and the community loves it.

Black Ops 6 brings back the grind

Until a few years ago, the prestige system worked like this: you leveled up to 55 by playing and then exchanged this level 55 character for a prestige badge. Your progress was reset, and you could unlock weapons again and again and collect prestige badges, which earned you bragging rights and the respect of other veterans.

In the blog of Call of Duty, the return of this system has now been announced. It will again be possible to collect prestige ranks when you reach the maximum level and thus reset your own progress.

As before, you will start at level one and unlock new content, such as perks and weapons, as you progress. Each prestige level is thematically based on well-known titles from the history of Black Ops and offers you unique badges to show off.

That’s why the corks are popping on social media right now.

The reason I fell in love with CoD

On Twitter/X, the official Treyarch account posted the first four Prestige badges and the community is thrilled.

  • @FortnitePV2 writes under the post: Boy, that looks so awesome
  • @HiddenXperia wants to keep the first badge right away: I’ll reach Prestige 1 and not go a step further to keep the RAW WaW badge forever!

Even on Reddit, the joy is greatand many long-time CoD veterans are getting nostalgic. Many see not only the revival of the old prestige system as a great asset for Black Ops 6, but also the tribute paid to past parts.

  • u/champagne_anyone wants to wear his old Prestige badge: Prestige Master is an even bigger win than I expected. They’re also adding the Prestige icons from non-Treyarch games. I can’t wait to put CoD4 Prestige 9 back on.
  • u/The_Iceman2288;nbsp;remembers the beginning: The progression systems are why I fell in love with CoD back in the day and this seems like exactly the return to form I was looking for.

In recent years, a seasonal ranking system has been used in various CoD titles. When you reached level 55 here, you entered the seasonal ranks, where you kept all your progress, though. You also got Prestige Badges here, but for many, these felt less valuable than in the previous system.

What do you think about the reintroduction of the old rank progression? Are you looking forward to the grind or are other mechanics more important to you? Feel free to tell us in the comments!
