They had to wait a long time for the powerful DSS space station – but the mighty weapon turns out to be the worst teammate ever.

In Helldivers 2, there is now a new weapon that is bigger, more powerful and more chaotic than anything that has come before: the Democracy Space Station (DSS)

With its introduction, developer Arrowhead has not only brought a gigantic weapon into the game, but has also placed the power to control it directly into your hands. What could possibly go wrong?

What is the DSS in Helldivers 2 and how does it work?

The DSS is a massive space station that can be strategically positioned in the galaxy. All players decide together by vote to which planet the station will be moved next – ideally in response to current threats from beetles and machines.

The station has three main functions that can significantly influence the course of missions:

  1. Orbital Blockade: The DSS activates its Zero-G anti-ship missile system, which prevents large enemy spaceships from leaving the planet’s atmosphere. In addition, Helldivers receive more logistical support from Super Destroyers, making defense campaigns easier.
  1. Eagle Storm: A 24-hour rotation of Eagle fighters provides air support for all Helldiver operations on the planet and slows enemy offensives. This results in periodic Eagle air strikes during missions and slows enemy progress in defense campaigns.
  1. Planetary Bombardment: The DSS fires its 77 Presidential-Class cannons continuously, providing planet-wide artillery support that speeds liberation efforts. This manifests itself in periodic orbital bombardments during your missions and speeds up progress in liberation campaigns.

The DSS is controlled by the entire community: Regular votes decide to which planet the station will be moved next. The station can currently be moved every 24 hours.

To activate the actions of the DSS, daily donations are required – among other things, you have to deliver rare samples

Our tip:Those who don’t yet have a well-stocked resource pool should perhaps save their donations for later. The DSS is primarily aimed at players who live in abundance anyway and have enough resources to easily meet the requirements.

Instead, you can invest your rare materials in your own progress before you get involved in collective financing.

    Folks, the DSS is bad.

Opinions on the DSS on Redditare less than enthusiastic: many players are disappointed that the station is less interactive than expected.Hopes of entering or directly controlling the DSS have not been fulfilled.

Instead, another problem is causing massive frustration: The DSS is apparently doing more damage to the players than to their enemies.

    Guys… The DSS is Bad.

DSS stands for democratic self-sabotage, commented on Reddit by DeTeryd, for example, and many players agreed with him. The Planetary Bombardment mode, which is supposed to provide support, often leads to chaos due to imprecise targeting behavior – and to a quick death for the Helldivers.

Tetelesthai describes his experience as follows:

I played a solo mission in which I died five times because of the DSS. Without ticket regeneration, I would have lost the mission – because of the DSS.

So at the moment, the first impression is pretty critical. Whether Arrowhead Studios will fix the problems in future updates remains to be seen. Until then, you’ll just have to live with the explosive support of the DSS and keep your fingers crossed that you don’t bite the dust too often in the artillery hail.
